Welcome from Canada DanceSport
Welcome to DanceSport.ca. Canada and its DanceSport competitors are grateful for your interest.
CADA’s parent body, the International DanceSport Federation, believes that it may be granted a place for DanceSport in the Beijing 2008 or subsequent Summer Olympic Games. Canada DanceSport is a National Sport Federation (“NSF”) and represents “DanceSport” competitors in Canada; “DanceSport” is the name which is used to describe "competitive ballroom dancing".
We are one of 84 National Sport Federation ("NSF") members of the International DanceSport Federation (“IDSF”), which is based in Switzerland and represents nearly 9.5 million DanceSport competitors worldwide.
In June, 1995, IDSF was granted “Provisional Recognition” by the International Olympic Committee (“IOC”), a sort of probationary status that has replaced the practice of using “demonstration sports" at the Olympic Games since 1992. In September, 1997 it received Full Recognition from the IOC and began the lengthy process of applying for admission to the Medal Programme, to be able to participate in the Summer Olympic Games. We hope that our competitors will do so in 2008.
CADA is a full voting member of the Canadian Olympic Committee, which is the IOC member in Canada. We are proud to be a part of the Olympic movement in Canada. 52 of our fellow DanceSport NSFs have done the same in their countries; more than 2/3 of IDSF’s members are now also members of their recognized national Olympic affiliates.
